Second Annual Calabogie Blues & Ribfest a HUGE SUCCESS!

August 31st, 2012

After a hugely popular first year, the second annual Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest had bigger crowds, more music, and was a resounding success.

With attendance numbers between 12 and 14-thousand people, the festival grounds at Calabogie Peaks resort were packed with blues fans and rib fans alike.

The natural amphitheatre created by Calabogie Mountain and chairlift rides overlooking the entire grounds created a perfect setting for the County’s biggest festival.

Highlights of the festival featured performers mingling with the crowd, including Powder Blues, JW-Jones and an electric five minute walkabout by David Rotundo to close the festival on Sunday.

Saturday evening featured a world class fireworks display with never before seen pyrotechnics launched from half way up Calabogie Mountain, the very moment Powder Blues hit their last note.

Judging for best ribs took place on Sunday afternoon, and the Judge’s results are:  Best sauce went to Gator BBQ and best ribs went to Horn Dawg’s Smokin’ BBQ.

As for People’s Choice Awards, best pulled pork winner was Horn Dawg’s Smokin’ BBQ.  First place for Chicken was Kentucky Smokehouse, and best sauce went to Horn Dawg’s Smokin’ BBQ.  Best Ribs, again, went again to Horn Dawg’s Smokin’ BBQ.

Frank Torres, President of 101.9 DAWG FM says “The festival had it all, great weather, great attendance and the top blues performers from across Canada not only performing for the crowd but performing in the crowd!  With the help of our numerous partners and sponsors we were able to reunite Downchild and Powder Blues, Jack De Keyzer and Shakura S’Aida, and they certainly did not disappoint.”

With such a great response to the 2012 festival, dates have already been set for next year.  The third annual Calabogie Blues & Ribfest will be held August 16, 17& 18.  CalabogieBlues.com for all details.
